Not many people like to have lots of uncertainty and ambiguity in their lives. Some are reasonably comfortable with varying degrees of uncertainty and ambiguity because they like to strategise and consider different options rather than have everything mapped out for them.

However when it comes to organisations and businesses, generally those people who like to have a degree of freedom with which they can explore options, and have the conviction to lead others to follow them are given senior roles. However they have to convince many key stakeholders that they have the necessary capability and leadership skills to convince others to follow them as they pave the way.

Strategy, is all about answering the WHAT question.  Those who are accountable for defining and answering this question will also be mindful of the hurdles that organisations face in communicating and aligning strategic direction with business activity.
